Janardan Rai Nagar Rajasthan Vidyapeeth was established in 1937 to serve the needy, backward, downtrodden masses and to educate the tribal people residing in the remote areas. Vidyapeeth was recognized for its academic, social and enlightening services in the rural areas and was granted the status of a deemed - university in 1987. Since its inception the Vidyapeeth has religiously worked in the Area of Adult and Continuing Education and in its continuation, the university has established the Directorate of Distance Education in 2000-2001 and offered various professional, traditional programmes throughout the country. They include:

o Para-Medical & Allied Health Science Courses and Computer & Management Courses
o Social Sciences, Commerce and Humanities Course
o Engineering & Technology Courses

These courses have become very popular because they provide opportunities of learning while earning. It helps the learners to get their rightful promotion, which they could not get due to lack of proper (Higher) degrees. Those students are also benefited, who dropped out from the main stream of education due to unavoidable circumstances, by getting chance to add to their knowledge I education.

Off Campus Study Centers have been established at, State Capitals & Metropolitan Cities, District Headquarters of various states in India and Tehsils & Gram Panchayats of all Districts so as to reach education to the very threshold of the learners. Such centers are established in the Govt. Colleges, Institutions aided by the University, NGOs Registered Societies, etc.
