Rajasthan Vidyapeeth (Deemed) University's Department of English came into existance in 1956 with inception of M.V. Shramjevi College. It became a P.G department in 1980. Since 1987, with the declaration of Rajathan Vidyapeeth as Deemed University, the department got freedom to form syllabi and has taken initiative to introduce the content of Indian Writing in English not only at P.G level but also at U.G level. Evem when the classes were run for the working students, wonderful results were achieved due to hard work from both sides - Teachers as well as students.

Seminars, tutorials and internal assesment are the regular features of teaching and evolution. Thus the intaraction between the teachers and the taught has resulted in blossoming the personality of students. They maintain descipline and decorum in addition to their learning.

It is pride for the department that the Prof. K.K Vashishtha, The H.O.D. of department became the Vice Chancellor of Rajasthan Vidyapeeth for six years.

The department had been guided by great personalities like Prof. R.P Bhatnagar, Rajasthan University, Dr. R.N Mookarjee, Sukhadiya University , Prof. G.M. Mehta etc.

Research Activity

Nearly 20 students were registered for Ph.D in the period of IX-Plan out of which 10 students are awarded Ph.D degree - two being from foreign countries.

Project writing work is done at M.A level.
The main thrust of the research is on Indian Writing in English, Drama and Fiction of 20th Century,Victorian fiction and linguistics.

Publications of Journals and Books

To have contact with global literature and research it is necessory to publish a departmental or faculty language Magzine / Journel. For the publication of research Journal on Interdisciplinary topics - Rs. 5 lacs be granted to the Dept./Faculty

Strengthening Vocational Course

The course of functional English at U.G level intoduced as one of the three optional / main subjects needs revival and support. Financial support of Rs. 4 lacs for Guest Faculties and traing of students, can be a great help to the students, Dept. and society.
