The Department of Hindi started its journey under the able guidence of renowned scholar Jagannath Joshi who was the founder HOD of the Department. The Post Graduate Programme was started in 1957. Following the deemed to be university Status to Rajasthan Vidyapeeth, like other teaching departments undertook the exercise of revamping the syllabi and course content and Internal Assessment system was introduced. The department is actively engaged in the literary activities and has the distinction of having many great literary figures associated with it .

The department plans to introduce M.A. in Hindi Translation and one year P.G. Diploma in Translation. The growth of private Television and Radio channels has opened new avenues for Hindi Writers, Anchors, News Readers in the satellite Television Industry. To meet the ever increasing demand of these professionals the department proposes to start Diploma Courses to develop writing and anchoring skills.
