Introduction
- The Udaipur School of Social Work, Udaipur established in 1959, is one of the leading and pioneering institutions of Social Work. Starting its journey as a pillar of Janardan Rai Nagar Rajasthan Vidyapeeth (Deemed University), the institute today has attained a global reputation for its academic excellence and development linked services and research.
- The School is one among the pioneer Social Work institutions of the country. It has produced Administrators, Development and Welfare functionaries who are placed in very high positions in the Govt. of India, various State Governments, leading industrial organizations, NGOs, etc
Teaching & Training
The two - year postgraduate programme in social
work is conducted through class room lectures,
tutorials, seminars, as well as field instruction and
practice. It aims to prepare students to take up
practice of social work in a number of settings. The
programme provides for general preparation based on
the underlying unity and identity of purpose in many
fields and is of a generic pattern in the first year.
In the second year in view of the need for specialized
knowledge and up-to-date and complete information in
some of the important fields, special papers are
offered as per student’s choice based on merit and the
regulations of the school.
Medium of Instruction
The medium of instruction in the School is
English and Hindi. Since most of the books on social
work are in English, students are expected to have
proficiency in English.
Rajasthan being predominantly a Hindi speaking
area, working knowledge of Hindi is essential in order
to communicate with people in the field practices. The
students have the option to write university
examination either in English or Hindi.
Employment Opportunities
There is a wide spectrum of employment
opportunity available after the completion of the
course. In Industrial Sector, and other such
establishments, those who specialize in Human Resource
Management, may be absorbed as Labor Welfare Officers,
Personnel Officers etc. The M.A. Social Work from the
School is recognized by the Central and most of the
State Governments for the appointment of Welfare
Officers under the Factories Act, 1948. In other
fields also, its graduates find employment in the
fields of Family and Child Welfare; Social Welfare;
Correctional Administration; Integrated Child
Development Schemes; Institutional care for Social or
physically handicapped etc.
Location
Udaipur is well connected by air, bus and train
services. The School is located at its campus at
Pratapnagar, about 6 Kms. From the city on Udaipur-Chittorgarh
road.
